To Case or Not to Case: Exploring the Pros and Cons of Using an iPhone Case

Do you really need an iPhone case?

Be honest, how many times have you asked yourself this question? The truth is, there is no simple yes or no answer to this question, as you could easily find yourself in a situation where it's a no-brainer to have a shockproof case to keep your iPhone safe. For example, when doing DIY at home. At the same time, you could say "I have no need for a case; I don't mind my iPhone picking up scratches and scuff marks, as I don't plan to sell it for a few years." Let's dive into the pros and cons of having a case on your iPhone.

A shockproof case keeps your iPhone safe

This is the number one reason to get a case. The average cost of a new phone is now over £1000, still an insane number, but one that everyone has become happy to pay when you spend this much on a case you want to ensure its money well spent and lasts a long time, that’s where any case really excels. The extra protection from a case ensures that your phone lasts as long as you want regardless of whether or not you plan to sell your iPhone and honestly it’s a small price to pay for the added peace of mind.

It ruins the slim design

What best way to follow the best pro other than the main con against a case, no matter how thin the case you buy it will always change how the iPhone feels in your hand and how thick it is, fortunately, there are much slimmer ultra-thin cases available now compared to back when they all first started showing up and some of them really do feel nearly the same as a naked iPhone. You really need to weigh up if the extra size is worth the added protection and security of having a case on your iPhone.

A case adds texture

Most of the current iPhones are made of matte glass, while this is a tough and beautiful material it is unfortunately quite slippery and easily glides out of your hand when in use, something you would not want happening when you're out and about. All cases from the ultra-thin cases to the shockproof silicone-style cases feature a different texture, some are grippier than others but they are all better than the slippery matte glass used by the iPhone.

The case gets dirty

This is something that cannot be helped, but, I would prefer my iPhone case get dirty rather than my phone as dirt can often lead to scratches and scuff marks, the only issue with this line of thinking is that you would eventually have to buy a new case which after a while can get expensive.

Mixing up the styles

Another great benefit is that you can completely change the look of your iPhone with a case, turning it from a standard black into the most vibrant of colours, this is my favourite thing about having a silicone case, it really allows you to give your phone some much-needed personality and make it stand out from the crowd.

It can have an effect on wireless charging and MagSafe compatibility

This is an issue some iPhone cases have had in the past but honestly, it should not worry you anymore, most cases are fully Qi certified and some of the more recent cases feature MagSafe built in.

So there you have it, these are some of the main pros and cons of having an iPhone case, please do weigh up the pros and cons and hopefully, they will help you decide if you actually need a case or not.
